Autumnal wishes to you... :)
The News...
Autumn is the season of colour changing and shedding, which is really what we’ve seen in nature over the past few weeks. What a start we’ve had, having experienced the build up and aftermath of cyclone Alfred here in South East Queensland.
Wasn’t it interesting feeling the rising anticipation on first news that the cyclone was heading for us…?? & then when he stalled out at sea, as we all prepared and battened down the hatches (literally); we then became impatient. We were all ready for Alfred’s arrival, and I have to say I was super grateful that it had stalled long enough to be downgraded to a Category 1 cyclone, as I can only imagine what the outcome would have been with even higher wind gusts. In the build up I was surprisingly calm, but I think I gained that from listening out for the insects, birds and wild life which were all still about. I talked to the trees and the land asking them to protect us as the winds and seas were building… Post cyclonic winds and uproar, the ever rising creek grew louder and louder and the water levels rose with the increasing rain. Thankfully where we live, the creek does not rise near the house, but I was up all night praying for those in lower lying areas… In the aftermath – with numerous trees uprooted around us, powerlines down, beaches washed away, the beauty of nature continues. The colour of the gum trees in the rain and sun have been exquisite and migratory birds have passed through singing their beautiful song. Allow yourself the time to tune into the colours, the sounds, the smells, the sensations of this new phase.
Having spent nine days without power, I was ever so grateful that we had a generator throughout to ensure we had power for essentials. The drone of the generators was quite loud during the day, but I’ve loved the convenience of simplicity. Each of us in our household enjoyed some time alone and then together – whether it was exploring in the rain to see what was happening “out there”, reading a book, delving into craft and lego or board games – it was a much slower pace than we usually allow.
Then there was a mammoth effort in the community for the clean up, as energy crews clearing the falling trees and reinstalling powerlines and cables to get us back in action came from hundreds of kilometres away. It made me even more grateful and appreciative of where we live and community out reach to ensure that we are all safe.
Due to the debris at the end of our street , I decided to reschedule patients and have managed to attain two temporary substitute clinic spaces over the next couple of weeks. Therefore depending on what day you’re booked in, you may be seeing me at Sunny Skyes Wellness Hub, at 23 Taree Street, Burleigh, or the Sumone Hub, at Shop 16/33 Tallebudgera Creek Road, in West Burleigh. A big thanks to both Skye Bond and Megan Stray, from the respective hub’s who have kindly helped me out, offering space that they have available.
The Views...
Post storm we’ve seen a change in the colour of the oceans and creeks and the trees have not only shed leaves and branches but roots systems too. As we move into this season the self editing may arise, and my reminder to you (& myself) is to be kind to yourself!! Allow things to fall away in preparation for all that lies ahead.
This month I invite you to do some more eye exercises to stimulate and calm your midbrain and vagal tone:
- Focus on a point in front of you.
- Maintaining your eyes focused on that point, nod your head up and down, at least three times.
- Maintaining your eyes focused on that same point, turn your head as far as you can to the right and then left, at least three times.
- Repeat the exercise focusing on a point close and on a point in the distance.
The Upcoming...
The exciting news is that workshops commence at the end of the month and we have a very special offer for you to start us off.
MARCH:
I’m thrilled to collaborate with a beautiful colleague, Jo Dobson - who is also a chiropractor and healer extraordinaire - to present our first offering:
Sunday, 30th March 2025 - Returning to SELF: 9am - 12noon, $99.
Be guided by heart centred practitioners to reconnect to yourself - allowing, accepting and embracing what is. Take some time out from the busyness to "just be". Through gentle healing practices, self-regulating techniques and community - return home more connected to YOU.
We’d love to have you join us, considering what we’ve all just been through. There is no agenda and you don’t have to pretend to be ok, we’d just love you to allow yourself to BE - to be seen, heard, felt, nurtured and loved in a safe space.
