Greetings,
The News...It certainly is that busy time of the year - can you believe it?! In our household there's been trips, concerts, shows and celebrations; and yet we're still 5 weeks out from Christmas.
The end of last month and start of this month entailed another learning adventure for me, down to Melbourne to do a SOZO Brain Center Certification workshop. Dr Petros Kattou focuses on functional neuromodulation - to switch on the brain. His motto is "The issue is not in the tissues, but rather the issue is in the brain!!" It was an enlightening workshop where we got to see a few patients also being treated for conditions like fibromyalgia, dementia, parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis & chronic fatigue syndrome. However, the focus for Australian practitioners was primarily on the recently TGA approved Newronika HDCkit transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) device. It expands access to safe, non-invasive, and scientifically backed neuromodulation treatments especially for the following conditions:
My brain, as you can imagine, has been exploding with possibilities, and the more I learn the more I still feel I need or in reality would love to learn. Some of you have been open to experiencing a new approach, and I'm grateful in your trust in me.
Over the festive season, I will be closing clinic from Wednesday 24th - Friday 26th December; opening on the Saturday with a few appointments left on Saturday 27th December at this stage. Then the clinic will be closed again from 28th December until 7th January 2026, recommencing on the 8th January 2026. In March 2026 there will also be an increase in my fees as I haven't increased them for several years, but thought I'd give you a few months notice. I'm so looking forward to continuing to care for you and to share all I'm learning along the way too to benefit your health!! :-) xx
The Views... Another pivotal introduction this month has been e-meeting, Caroline Smith, the principal of Malibongwe Primary School. The school is for abused and neglected children in my original home town in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe.
A little note from Caroline: I run the onsite primary school and currently teach 112 children. Most of the children are resident at the home and can arrive with us at any time and for various different lengths of time depending on their case and many stay with us forever. It is mostly girls ... and we do have some boys too. We have also taken in vulnerable children from the community who are living rough, not eating and that were definitely not going to school. So they come to school and get porridge in the morning, a mid morning snack and a cooked lunch and everything they need for school. This is possible because of individuals who sponsor the children monthly. The children know who their sponsors are and they write letters every few months and I send occasional photos and videos. The kids love getting a letter back too. We have been incredibly blessed with assistance from so many people around the world as well as friends in Bulawayo.
The school is such a happy place and the children are really thriving. Previously they went to the local government school where there were at least 50 - 60 children in a class - not enough desks and chairs and corporal punishment is the norm.
There are 9 of us teachers with 2 preschool classes and Grades 1 to 7. The children get a lot of individual help as often they have missed a lot of school and in many cases have not been to school at all. So our classes are named after birds not grades so the children never have to feel embarrassed about the class that they are in. I teach the Grade 1s and we are the Owls so I may have a 9 year old who has never been to school starting with me. At the moment we have just had identical twins arrive who have never been to school and have been living on the street so they have started with me. They say they are 12 but look to be about 9.
We are always so very grateful for any and all help we receive and if you live in the USA ,Australia or South Africa we can provide a tax deductible receipt too. We have a UK HSBC account and Paypal too.
If you are interested in sponsoring a child or would like to contribute to a teachers salary that will be great. The teachers are supposed to earn (by regulation) $ 500 monthly but currently they only get half of that. There are no admin fees so 100% of what you give goes straight to the child's needs and care. Please follow us on Facebook and Insta " Malibongwe Primary School". Thank you once again and do get hold of me if you feel led to assist us. Many thanks and God bless Caroline Smith
If you feel drawn to supporting or donating towards the kids or teachers, you can do so directly with no third party involved by contacting Caroline. If you need any other contact details, I'd be more than happy to share them with you.
